Fire Protection & Fire Fighting

Sprinklers, fire pumps, hydrants, fire alarm, gas suppression and extinguishers — designed, supplied, installed and commissioned by one accountable team in Uganda and East Africa.

Overview

Complete fire protection, from the pump room to the last detector

VAKRUM designs, supplies, installs and commissions complete fire protection and fire fighting systems for factories, warehouses, hotels, offices, hospitals, stadiums, substations and fuel depots across Uganda and East Africa.

Every system starts with a site risk assessment and hydraulic calculations, is built from approved global brands, pressure-tested on site and handed over with as-built drawings, test records and an operation and maintenance manual. After handover we keep it working with scheduled inspections, servicing and fast breakdown response.

  • Water-based, gas-based and portable protection under one contract
  • In-house hydraulic design and AutoCAD shop drawings
  • Pressure-tested, flow-tested and fully commissioned
  • Annual maintenance contracts and same-day breakdown response
What we deliver

Fire fighting and life-safety systems we deliver

01

Automatic sprinkler systems

Wet, dry and pre-action sprinkler systems, hydraulically calculated for the hazard class of each area.

  • Alarm valve stations with trim, gauges and flow switches
  • Pendent, upright, sidewall and concealed heads
  • Zone control valves with tamper and flow monitoring
02

Fire pump sets & pump rooms

Complete pump rooms that keep water at pressure when it is needed most.

  • Electric duty, diesel standby and jockey pump packages
  • Suction and delivery manifolds, test headers and flow meters
  • Fire water storage tanks, chambers and fire mains
03

Hydrants, hose reels & risers

External and internal fire fighting water for occupants and the fire brigade.

  • External hydrant rings and landing valves
  • Wet and dry risers with breeching inlets for high-rise
  • Hose reel cabinets sited for full floor coverage
04

Fire alarm & detection

Addressable and conventional fire alarm systems, loop-wired, programmed and commissioned on site.

  • Smoke, heat, multi-sensor and manual call points
  • Aspirating, beam, linear heat and flame detection
  • Voice evacuation and links to lifts, fans and access control
05

Gas & special suppression

Clean-agent and special hazard systems where water would damage equipment or spread the fire.

  • FM-200, inert gas and FK-5-1-12 for server and control rooms
  • CO₂ total flooding and local application
  • Deluge, foam and water spray for transformers, tanks and LPG yards
  • Kitchen hood wet-chemical systems and high-pressure water mist
06

Extinguishers, equipment & training

The first line of defence — correctly selected, sited, tagged and serviced.

  • Water, foam, dry powder, CO₂ and wet chemical extinguishers
  • 25–50 kg wheeled units for industrial areas
  • Exit signage, emergency lights, fire blankets and assembly points
  • Annual servicing, refilling, hydro-testing and fire drills

How we deliver

From site survey to handover

  1. Site survey

Our engineers visit site, confirm the scope, measure up and review the architectural or MEP drawings.

  2. Design & calculations

System selection, calculations and sizing, then coordinated AutoCAD shop drawings, specifications and a priced BOQ.

  3. Approved equipment

Technical submittals for client and consultant approval, then sourcing, import and delivery of the approved brands.

  4. Installation

Supervised VAKRUM installation crews working to the approved drawings, with safe-work permits and daily site records.

  5. Testing & commissioning

Hydrostatic pressure tests, pump flow and performance tests, alarm cause-and-effect tests and suppression room checks, witnessed with the client.

  6. Handover & support

As-built drawings, test certificates and O&M manuals, then annual maintenance, inspections, refilling and spares.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Which fire suppression system is right for a server room or control room?

Rooms with sensitive electronics are normally protected with a clean-agent gas system such as FM-200, an inert gas or FK-5-1-12, which puts the fire out without water damage. We check the room size, how airtight it is and whether people work inside before recommending the agent.

Do you service fire systems installed by other contractors?

Yes. We inspect, test, service and repair existing sprinkler, hydrant, fire alarm and suppression systems and extinguishers, and offer annual maintenance contracts with scheduled visits and same-day breakdown response.

What do you need to prepare a fire fighting quotation?

Architectural layouts or MEP drawings, a BOQ or short scope of works, the project location and your target programme and budget. If there are no drawings yet, we start with a site survey.

How is a fire protection system tested before handover?

Pipework is hydrostatically pressure-tested, fire pumps are flow-tested, alarm devices and interfaces are tested one by one, and the results are recorded and handed over with as-built drawings and the O&M manual.
